Moving Forward

stop light guy
What a journey we have been on over the past year. We have seen ups and downs, trials, pains, joy, excitement, disappointment’s and a constant feeling of worship. The relationships that have been formed along the way have just been amazing. For the first time in my life I have seen honesty and transparency in the context of church. Politics have gone out the window, conflict over petty issues are non-existent. The only thing that now remains is a small group of people who are longing for spiritual renewal, obedience to the Father’s will and true connection to our community.
This past weekend we had a good time of hanging out, eating barbque and looking at Psalm 16. I wanted to touch on a few points from that Psalm. The first step towards spiritual renewal is acknowledging that everything you need is found in the Lord. There is no other source that will provide everything you need. True spiritual renewal can never be provided to you from anyone except the Lord. What is the practical implications of that? Well, that understanding should cause you to question where and what you are seeking. If you are looking to be renewed by finding the next great church, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for renewal in an emotional retreat, you will be disappointed. Nothing will quite due. No book, great teacher, or “miracle” will make it happen.

“You spiritual renewal will only come from the LORD”

That means that before you seek anything else you must first seek Him. Put everything else away and spend chunks of time alone with Him in prayer and His word. Let all of the noise of the world and your worries fall away and simply come to Him as if your life depended on it. Place your confidence in the truth that He will be able to provide you everything you need. Don’t let anything distract you from simply spending time with the Father. Because as Psalm 16 says, “In Your (the Lord’s) presence is fullness of joy.”
